Copy That
We all copy – in the beginning, at least. You copy the things you like or love in order to learn. In doing so you can pick up on different approaches and techniques. At some point you eventually have to stop copying though. Your true voice will never show in the work. You'll be nothing more than an echo.
La Brea Tar* Pits
Took a trip to Museum Row and visited the tar* pits.
*The "tar" at La Brea is actually naturally occurring asphalt. You learn something when you take the tour.
The Neighborhood
The long walk home from a mechanic provided me with an opportunity to take some photos of my neighborhood. When life gives you lemons...
Keep Austin Beard
"Beard-loving hipsters were blamed for the decline in razor sales last summer, and in 2014, razor giants like Procter and Gamble (owner of Gillette) has continued to blame poor sales on the trendiness of beards."
Is there anything beards can't do?
Completely Honest Resume of a Graphic Designer
Skills: All the computer programs known to man, except for Microsoft Word. That is where graphic design goes to lay down and die.
Creativity is Rejected
"In fact, everyone I spoke with agreed on one thing—unexceptional ideas are far more likely to be accepted than wonderful ones."
Well, that's a bit depressing. Creative people should still fight the good fight. Keep pushing your ideas and you'll find someone who responds...eventually. Resilience is key.
Gateway Design
Use design as a gateway for your message. Bad design will turn people away from all the good you have to share. Good design is inherently trustworthy. People are skeptical of design that looks void of any thought or skill.
Good design can also initially target a superficial response in people, but now you've made it that much easier to bring them in for your message.
More: Making for the Sake of Making
"Eventually, if you do it well, and long enough, people will start asking you to do it for them."

4th of July
What's the 4th of July without a parade? Or a trip to the beach – at least when you live in Southern California.
