Salo - A Vintage Style Serif
Salo - A Vintage Style Serif
Salo is Latin for surf. It’s heavily inspired by one of my favorite places in the entire world, the North Shore of Oahu in Hawaii. There are great beaches, great surfing and especially great shave ice. I was inspired to create Salo from the type I saw on a saltwater-weathered sign at a shave ice place in Haleiwa.
Salo Regular has a laid back style that could easily be found in a surf shop’s logo, a country album cover or a vintage sign. Salo Italic has a bit more energy to it than Salo Regular with its forward lean. Salo has a nice mix of what I like to call “contemporary heritage” – it works well in modern applications, but wouldn’t look out of place in something you might have seen in Southern California in the 1960s or Las Vegas in its heyday.
